How to Perform Solat Jenazah
Solat Jenazah (the Islamic funeral prayer) is a collective obligation (Fardhu Kifayah) performed over a deceased Muslim. It contains no ruku' (bowing) or sujud (prostration) and is performed entirely standing across four Takbirs.

1st Takbir
أُصَلِّي عَلَى هَذَا الْمَيِّتِ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ فَرْضَ كِفَايَةٍ مَأْمُومًا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى
Uṣallī ʿalā hādhal-mayyiti arbaʿa takbīrātin farḍa kifāyatin maʾmūman lillāhi taʿālā.
Meaning: I intend to pray the funeral prayer over this deceased male, four Takbirs, as a collective obligation (Fardhu Kifayah), following the Imam, for the sake of Allah the Almighty.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Bismillāhir-raḥmānir-raḥīm
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
Al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil-‘ālamīn
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Ar-raḥmānir-raḥīm
The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
Māliki yawmid-dīn
Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.
إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ
Iyyāka na‘budu wa iyyāka nasta‘īn
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
Ihdinaṣ-ṣirāṭal-mustaqīm
Guide us to the straight path.
صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
Ṣirāṭal-ladhīna an‘amta ‘alayhim, ghayril-maghḍūbi ‘alayhim wa laḍ-ḍāllīn
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked anger or of those who are astray.
Kedudukan Imam & Jenazah (Mazhab Syafi'i)
Imam berdiri setentang dengan kepala jenazah. Kepala jenazah diletakkan di sebelah kiri Imam dan kakinya di sebelah kanan Imam (menghadap kiblat).
Imam berdiri setentang dengan pinggang / bahagian tengah jenazah.
Susunan Saf Jemaah
Sunat merapatkan saf dan membentuk sekurang-kurangnya 3 saf walaupun jumlah jemaah sedikit, berdasarkan hadis Rasulullah ﷺ: “Mana-mana orang beriman yang meninggal lalu disolatkan oleh sekumpulan orang Islam sehingga mencapai tiga saf, nescaya diampunkan baginya.” (HR Abu Dawud).
